Music samplings from '07

  • Jan. 28th, 2008 at 5:19 AM

Thought I'd share some tracks I enjoyed from last year. This isn't a top 10 list or anything, it would be impossible to do that with a year's worth of songs. These are just some that popped out at me as I was scrolling down itunes.

Everything should be in a labeled folder.

Enjoy, and leave feedback. :)

Jon Foreman - Fall/Winter

  • Jan. 26th, 2008 at 1:17 AM

Jon Foreman is best known as the lead singer for the band Switchfoot. While I have always enjoyed Switchfoot's work, I must say that Foreman's solo release is in a league of it's own. It's much mellower and minimalistic than Switchfoot's output, highlighting Foreman's voice and guitar work. It features many other instuments besides, and it's Foreman's subtle adventures in this area that makes Fall/Winter so emotionally involving. This looks like it will easily be the best album of the month, so I highly encourage you to check it out.

My Music for last year

  • Jan. 25th, 2008 at 11:39 PM

mah frst entreh:

I think I'll start off by listing my favorite 10 CDs from last year. Well, I don't know if they're really my favorite. I kinda gave all my CDs number scores on a whim, and that's how I got my top 10. I'd say it's not too bad though. And guess what, I'm even gonna let you listen to them for yourself. :)

#1. The National - Boxer

So chill, so composed, so smooth, yet rippling with texture, weakness and anxiety. These songs may bore the musically impatient, but for those who give it the time it deserves, it's magic.

#2. Burial - Untrue

Cool enough to grab anyone's attention, and mysterious enough to keep anyone coming back for more. Dubstep at it's finest.

#3. The Aliens - Astronomy for Dogs

I turned on this album for the first time, and it took me completely by surprise. Catchy, progressive, varied, and easily the best of its kind in a while.

#4. Radiohead - In Rainbows

Good Radiohead songs are stellar songs for any other band, and this album has 10 of them.

#5. Panda Bear - Person Pitch

Sugary, instrumental, vocal, layers upon layers of dreamy fun.

#6. Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog

Best of its kind since Califone's most recent release. Maybe even better than that, which is saying a LOT.

#7. Tomahawk - Anonymous

Indian metal? I was hesitant at first, but this album blew my expectations away.

#8. Eluvium - Copia

Gorgeous the whole way through. There are moments throughout this album that compete for best musical moments of the year.

#9. Animal Colective - Strawberry Jam

Contains two of the years best tracks in Reverend Green and Fireworks, and the rest of this bombastic, confusing, glitchy, catchy, swaying release is a fine thing as well.

#10. Ulver - Shadows of the Sun

This album creeps stealthily at times, but it's beautiful and decieving simplicity can be breathtaking.
